The word "build" appears 42 times in this chapter because building was the heartbeat of the movement. God isn't looking for people who simply agree with good ideas or get excited about possibilities. He's looking for people who will roll up their sleeves and participate in the work. What has God shown you from His Word? What step of obedience do you know you need to take?Perhaps it's serving in your local church, giving financially toward kingdom purposes, or using your gifts to bless others.

Today is the day to move from intention to participation. These phrases echo throughout Nehemiah 3, painting a picture of harmonious collaboration. People from different backgrounds, social classes, and skill levels worked side by side without competition or division.

This wasn't uniformity; each individual remained distinct, but they moved with one purpose. On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus prayed earnestly for this kind of unity among His followers. He knew that a divided church would fail to accomplish His mission. You can distract him for a moment, but eventually only milk will do.

But as my kids get older, I am also learning something else. Just because something is good for them does not mean they always want it. My three-year-old does not always want vegetables. She would much rather eat snacks or sweets. But as a parent, I know she needs vegetables if she is going to grow strong and healthy.

So even when she does not crave them, I still put them on her plate.

Peter says our spiritual lives are supposed to work the same way.

Just like a baby cannot grow without nourishment, a Christian cannot grow without God’s Word. We do not mature spiritually by accident. We do not grow just because we attend church or have good intentions. Spiritual growth requires spiritual nourishment.

God’s Word feeds you and nourishes you, even on the days you do not feel hungry for it.
If you do not feel a strong desire for Scripture right now, do not be discouraged. Hunger grows with use. Just like with a child, regular feeding develops a healthy appetite. The more you take in God’s Word, the more you will desire it and the more you will grow.
