Fruit of the Spirit - Temperance
Self-discipline, or temperance, is the Spirit’s work in us. It’s not about trying harder but about staying close to Christ. Without self-control, we can’t consistently live out love, joy, peace, or any of the other fruits.
The Bible shows both the benefits and the battles of discipline. It brings freedom, stability, and blessing—but without it, even the strongest people can fall. Paul reminds us in Galatians 5:17 that the flesh and the Spirit are always at war.
The key is not willpower but abiding. Jesus said, “Abide in me… for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5). When we walk in the Spirit, He produces in us the fruit of self-control, and our lives begin to reflect Christ more and more.
Stay close to Him—and let the Spirit make your life fruitful.
