Fruit of the Spirit - Gentleness
1. When you hear the word gentleness, what comes to mind? Do you usually think of it as a strength or a weakness? Why?
2. Read 1 Thessalonians 2:7. How does Paul’s picture of a mother caring for her child help you understand what true gentleness looks like?
3. Jesus showed gentleness in many ways during His ministry—welcoming children (Mark 10), speaking kindly to the woman at the well (John 4), and showing compassion to the broken. Which of these examples stands out most to you, and why?
3. Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” What are some situations where gentleness in our words could change the outcome of a conversation?
4. Think about your actions this past week. Was there a moment when irritation took over instead of patience? What might gentleness have looked like in that situation?
5. In Ephesians 4:32, Paul connects kindness with forgiveness. Why is forgiveness such an important expression of gentleness in our relationships?
6. Walking in the Spirit is the only way we can consistently show gentleness. What helps you personally stay in step with the Spirit—God’s Word, prayer, or obedience? Which of those do you most need to grow in?
7. Who in your life right now needs to see gentleness from you this week? What specific step can you take to show it?
