Monday - Reflecting Our Father’s Character

Ephesians 5:1–2 – “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
I Peter 1:14–16 – “As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
You know, it’s amazing how much little kids pick up just by watching. My son Joseph is only one, and he’s already trying to imitate everything we do. Every Sunday when the music starts at church, he starts “singing” too. Well, yelling, really. It’s not on key and not always at the right time, but he’s doing what he sees his parents and church family doing.
And honestly, that’s such a picture of the Christian life. Paul says in Ephesians 5:1, “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children.” That word followers literally means imitators. Just like a child imitates their parents, we’re called to imitate our heavenly Father.
Now let’s be honest, we don’t always get it right. Sometimes we trip up. Sometimes our “singing” sounds more like yelling. But the goal isn’t perfection, it’s reflection. It’s about showing our Father’s heart a little more each day as we grow in Him.
Peter reminds us that as God’s children, we’re called to live differently. To be holy because He is holy. That means when people see us, they should catch a glimpse of Him. His love. His patience. His mercy. His truth.
So here’s the challenge for today: when people look at your life, do they see your Father? Do they see His kindness in your words, His grace in your responses, His love in your actions?
You carry His name. You belong to His family. Remember that.
