Monday - Embracing Your New Identity

Ephesians 4:17–24 - “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
Have you ever heard of Kurt Warner? He’s one of the greatest comeback stories in sports history.
After college, nobody drafted him. Nobody wanted him. He ended up bagging groceries at a Hy-Vee just to pay the bills. Most people would have said his dream was over. But then the St. Louis Rams gave him a chance. He was supposed to be a backup quarterback, but when their starter went down, Warner put on that Rams jersey and stepped onto the field.
And suddenly, everything changed. That year, he threw for over 4,000 yards, won the NFL MVP, and led his team to a Super Bowl victory. In one season, he went from bagging groceries to being a world champion. His old life didn’t define him anymore—he was living out a brand-new identity.
That’s exactly what Paul is describing in Ephesians 4:17–24. When you trusted Christ, you received a brand-new identity. You’re no longer defined by your past or your old ways of living. Paul says to “put off the old man” and to “put on the new man.”
Take a moment today to reflect on who you were before Christ and who you are now. What old habits or thought patterns do you need to “put off”? How can you actively “put on” your new identity in Christ today?
Remember, you are a new creation. You are designed for righteousness and true holiness. Live today in the freedom and purpose of your new identity.
