Wednesday - Pursuing Purity in a Compromising World
I Thessalonians 4:3 – “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication.”
I John 2:15–17 – “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Let’s be honest, purity isn’t popular. The world laughs at it. It celebrates the very things God calls us to stay away from. But Scripture couldn’t be clearer. Paul says, “This is the will of God... that ye should abstain from fornication.”
In other words, God’s will for your life is holiness. He wants your body, your mind, and your heart to be set apart for Him. The world says, “Follow your feelings.” God says, “Follow Me.” The world says, “If it feels right, do it.” God says, “If it honors Me, pursue it.”
That’s why John reminds us, “Love not the world.” Because the world’s way always pulls us away from the Father. When we start loving what the world loves, our hearts drift from the One who loves us most.
Purity isn’t just about saying “no” to sin. It’s about saying “yes” to something better. It’s about filling your mind with what’s true and pure, and guarding your heart against what corrupts.
So today, take a moment to ask yourself: what has been shaping your thoughts lately? The world’s influence, or God’s Word?
Ask the Lord to help you walk in purity – not out of fear, but out of love. Because the closer you walk with Him, the less appeal the world will have.
