Thursday - Gratitude as a Lifestyle

Colossians 3:15–17 – “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
If there’s one thing that should mark the life of a believer, it’s gratitude. We’ve been rescued from darkness, forgiven of sin, and welcomed into God’s family. That alone is reason enough to thank Him every single day.
But it’s easy to forget that, isn’t it? We get caught up in what’s wrong, what’s missing, or what’s hard, and before we know it, complaining replaces thanksgiving. Yet Paul reminds us to “let the peace of God rule in your hearts” and “be ye thankful.” Gratitude isn’t just something we feel. It’s something we choose.
A thankful heart changes how we see everything. It shifts our focus from what we lack to what we’ve been given. It reminds us that every good thing in our lives, every breath, every moment of grace, is a gift from God.
So today, take a few minutes and write down five specific things you’re thankful for. Big or small. Maybe it’s your family, your church, your health, or even the way God has carried you through a tough season. Whatever it is, thank Him for it.
And when you’re tempted to complain, stop and turn that thought into praise. Gratitude is powerful. It reorients your heart toward God and fills your life with peace.
Ask Him to help you see His goodness in every situation and to make gratitude not just something you do but the way you live.
