Friday - Love That Reflects the Gospel

Ephesians 5:25 – “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”

When Paul tells husbands to love their wives, he doesn’t use a vague or casual word for love. He uses agape. This is God-like love. It is steady, faithful, and sacrificial.

Agape love is not based on feelings. It is a choice. It is the kind of love Jesus showed us, loving when it was hard, giving when it cost Him everything. Christ loved first, and He loved fully.

That kind of love does not come naturally. It comes supernaturally. This is why Paul begins the passage by calling believers to be filled with the Spirit. Only God can produce this kind of love in us.

When husbands love with agape love and wives respond with willing support, marriage becomes more than a partnership. It becomes a picture of the gospel. Not because it is perfect, but because it is shaped by Christ.
