Tuesday - The Power of Persistent Gratitude

Philippians 4:4–9 - "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you."
Paul tells us to “rejoice in the Lord always.” He even repeats it just to drive the point home. That means gratitude isn’t just for the good times. It’s for all times. Our joy doesn’t come from what’s going on around us. It comes from the Lord, and He never changes.
Paul also says when we pray with thanksgiving, something happens. God gives us His peace. And it’s not just any peace. It’s peace that doesn’t even make sense to the world. A peace that holds our hearts steady when life feels shaky.
So here’s the challenge for today. Pay attention to your thoughts. When you catch yourself worrying, or grumbling, or getting negative, stop. Then shift that thought to a truth about God or a reason you can thank Him right now. You’ll be surprised at how much it changes your mood. And even more, how it makes you aware that God really is with you.
