Tuesday - My Will vs. Thy Will

Jonah 2:1-9 — ”Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish's belly, And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”
Romans 12:1-2 — “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Throughout the whole book of Jonah, he is confronted with following his own will or God’s will. It is an internal battle of massive proportions—one side fighting hard against the other. Jonah followed his own will and found himself in the belly of a fish.
Today, just like Jonah, we are confronted with the same battle. We fight between doing what we want to do by following our sin and doing what God wants us to do according to His Word. The Christian life is a struggle against the desires of the flesh within us, but Romans 12 tells us that we are to let Christ transform our thinking to be more like Him and His Word.
Friend, are you like Jonah today? Do you make the mistake of following your own desires before God’s? He wants us to be transformed.
In the battle of “My Will vs. Thy Will,” choose to be conformed to the image of God.
