Wednesday - When The News Breaks You

Nehemiah 1:3–4 – “And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.”

The report was heavy.

-              Great affliction.

-              Reproach.

-              Walls broken.

-              Gates burned.

And the Bible says, Nehemiah sat down and wept.
He wept because God’s people were in shame and reproach.

Jesus did the same.
John 11:35-36 – “Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!”

-              Jesus wept because brokenness mattered to Him.

-              People mattered to Him .

We cry over movies. We tear up over sports. We get emotional over stories that touch our lives.
But when was the last time sin grieved us?

When was the last time we felt the spiritual direction of our home or church and it broke us?

You will never pick up a brick until you first carry a burden.
