Monday - God is the Source

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”—James 1:17
The 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship had already swung wildly. Alabama’s starting quarterback had been benched at halftime. A freshman, Tua Tagovailoa, was sent in cold, with the season on the line.
Overtime made it worse. On the very first snap, Tua was sacked and pushed Alabama out of field goal range. The moment looked like it had slipped away.
Then it happened.
On second and long, he dropped back again and launched a pass deep into the end zone. Touchdown. Game over. Championship sealed.
Minutes later, standing on the field with confetti falling and cameras everywhere, his first words weren’t about pressure, confidence, or redemption.
Tua said, “First and foremost, I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
In the biggest moment of his life, he pointed away from himself.

Devotional Thought
James reminds us that every good gift comes from above. That includes ability, opportunity, and even the strength to respond when the moment is overwhelming.
Recognizing God as the source doesn’t deny preparation or effort. It places them under the truth that nothing we have is self-made. God gives the moment. God gives the opportunity. God gives the breath to step into it.
When we remember that, gratitude replaces pride, and trust replaces pressure.
