Tuesday - Honor Your Father and Mother

Ephesians 6:2-3 – “Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”
Deuteronomy 5:16 – “Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”
There’s a difference between obedience and honor. Obedience is what you do. Honor is how you do it. You can obey and still be disrespectful. God calls us to more than compliance—He calls us to honor.
Paul reaches all the way back to the Ten Commandments and reminds us that honoring parents comes with a promise. Not because parents are flawless, but because God’s authority flows through them. When we honor them, we honor Him.
This doesn’t mean life will be easy. It doesn’t mean you’ll never struggle. It means you’re aligning yourself with God’s design – and that always brings blessing. In a culture that pushes independence and dismisses authority, this command calls us to be different. To respect. To appreciate. To care, especially as parents age.
