Tuesday - A Comfortable Man Who Still Cared

Nehemiah 1:1–2 “The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.”

Nehemiah was living in the palace.

-              He was the king’s cupbearer — trusted, respected, secure.

-              He wasn’t in danger.

-              He wasn’t in need.

But he asked about Jerusalem.

That tells you something – Comfort hadn’t killed his concern.

History gives us men like William Wilberforce, who enjoyed influence and wealth in Parliament, yet allowed himself to be burdened over the slave trade. He could have stayed comfortable. Instead, he cared — and it changed a nation.

Nehemiah leaned into the news. He asked the right question.

Sometimes a godly burden begins with simply asking about what truly matters.

Takeaway:
Spiritual burdens begin when comfort no longer silences concern.
