Thursday - The Prize Worth Running For

I Corinthians 9:24-27 “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”

Paul compared the Christian life to a race. A race that demands self-control and purpose. Just like athletes limit their diet and schedule to win, believers must practice spiritual discipline to advance the gospel. The world runs for temporary trophies — ones that will corrupt with time; we run for eternal souls! Every sacrifice we make is worth it because the prize is forever.

The gospel is too important to not sacrifice for the cause of Christ! Paul knew much of that price and wanted to run with purpose. Not like shadow boxers who hit nothing, and not like those who just run without purpose. He was deliberate, purposeful, and committed!

Run with purpose today. Make time for what matters such as prayer, Scripture, serving others. Be encouraged to see beyond the temporary and focus on the eternal reward of a life lived for His gospel.
