Thursday - A God Who Lifts the Lowly

Luke 1:51–53 –  “He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.”

Mary’s song doesn’t just celebrate God’s goodness. It declares His character. She speaks of a God who lifts the humble, feeds the hungry, and brings down the proud.

This is a reminder that God’s ways are often upside down from the world’s ways. He notices the overlooked. He works through the ordinary. He exalts the lowly.

Mary wasn’t powerful or important by the world’s standards. But she was available, humble, and obedient. And God chose to work through her.

That should encourage us. God isn’t looking for impressive résumés. He’s looking for surrendered hearts.
