Tuesday - Shaped By the Word

"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Psalm 119:11

"And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord." Luke 1:46

When Mary received the most overwhelming news a person could receive, that she would carry the Son of God, she didn't fall apart. She didn't panic. She worshipped. And as she worshipped, something remarkable happened: Scripture poured out of her.

Her song of praise in Luke 1 draws from Psalms, Genesis, Job, and beyond, with more than ten references in just a few verses. Mary wasn't just familiar with God's Word. She was saturated in it. The Word had become so much a part of her that when pressure came, Scripture was already living inside of her.

That is the goal for each of us.

The world is never going to stop telling us we are not enough. Not patient enough. Not present enough. Not doing enough. But when we are in the Word, God has a way of drowning out every other voice.

God's Word is not one more thing to add to an already full plate. It is the thing that carries you when everything else is pulling you under.
