Thursday - Remember the Ultimate Sacrifice

READ:  Romans 5:6–11; John 15:13

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his friends. That is the highest love a person can give — and it’s the love we honor when we remember the fallen. But there was One who went higher.

Jesus laid down His life, and not for His friends. He laid it down for His enemies — He died for us while we were still sinners. The soldier dies for the people on his side. Christ died for the people who had their backs turned to Him: the ones who didn’t want Him, the ones whose sin put Him on the cross.

That is a love that goes higher than any monument, any flag, any sacrifice on any battlefield. It is the love that meets you not after you’ve cleaned yourself up, but right in the middle of your worst. You did not earn it, and you cannot lose it for being exactly who you were when He died for you.

Do you quietly think Jesus loves you because you’ve been good enough? Romans 5:8 says He died while you were still a sinner. How does today change if you let yourself be loved at your worst?
