Thursday - Generosity

Nehemiah 5:17–18 – "Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us. Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people."

Nehemiah's leadership didn't just show up on the wall — it showed up at his own table. He fed about 150 people every single day, not counting the visitors from the surrounding nations. And here's the part you can't miss: he paid for all of it himself. He had a food allowance coming to him. He had every right to send the bill to the people. But he didn't. He opened his table and covered the cost.

And notice why. Because "the bondage was heavy upon this people." Nehemiah saw the burden the people were already carrying, and the last thing he was going to do was add to it. A selfish leader asks, "What can these people do for me?" A godly leader asks, "What can I do for these people?"

You don't have to be a governor to be generous. You don't have to set a table for 150 to open your hands. Generosity isn't about how much you have — it's about how tightly you hold on to it. God has not blessed you so you can live for yourself; He has blessed you so you can be a blessing to somebody else. And that blessing doesn't always come with a price tag — sometimes it's your home, your time, a shared meal, or just being available when somebody's hurting.

Are you holding on to things with a clenched fist or an open hand?
