Tuesday - The Life of the Savior

Luke 9:22 – “Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.”

Jesus immediately followed Peter's confession with an unexpected prediction: the Messiah would suffer. Instead of conquering Rome with military power, He would conquer sin through sacrifice. He would be rejected by the religious leaders, crucified on a rugged cross, and then triumph over death through His resurrection. None of this happened by accident. There was a purpose! Jesus said these things must happen because they were part of God's perfect plan to redeem mankind. Every wound He endured and every ounce of suffering He experienced was motivated by His love for you and I.

It is easy to become familiar with the gospel and lose our sense of wonder. We hear about the cross so often that we can forget the incredible price Jesus paid.

Take time today to thank Christ specifically for His suffering on your behalf. Consider how His sacrifice demonstrates both God's justice against sin and His immeasurable love for you. When you truly grasp what Christ endured for your salvation, it becomes much easier to surrender your own comforts in service to Him.
