Wednesday - The Life of the Disciple

Luke 9:23 — "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."

Jesus makes it clear that following Him involves more than believing certain truths—it requires a changed life. He gives three commands that define discipleship.

First, we must deny ourselves. This means refusing to let our own desires, ambitions, or preferences control our lives.

Second, we must take up our cross daily. In Jesus' day, carrying a cross meant one thing: death. The Christian life is a daily choice to die to self and surrender to God's will.

Finally, we are called to follow Jesus, making Him the pattern and direction of our lives.

Our culture constantly tells us to pursue comfort, convenience, and self-fulfillment. Jesus calls us to something far greater. Following Christ may lead us into uncomfortable conversations, sacrificial service, or difficult acts of obedience. Yet no sacrifice made for Christ is ever wasted.

Evaluate yourself today and find one area where you have been protecting your comfort more than pursuing obedience. Then take one practical step toward following Him more faithfully.
