Friday - Conquer the Comfort Zone

Luke 9:22-25 — “Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?”
The Christian life was never designed to be lived from a place of constant comfort. Jesus never promised His followers an easy road; He promised Himself. Our Savior willingly endured rejection, suffering, and death so that we could be reconciled to God. Because He first walked the path of sacrifice, He now calls us to follow Him down that same road. The call to discipleship is not simply to admire Christ's sacrifice but to imitate His surrender through daily obedience.
Comfort itself is not sinful! God graciously blesses us with many good gifts. However, the danger comes when comfort becomes more important than obedience. Fear of rejection can keep us from sharing the gospel. Convenience can keep us from serving. Familiar routines can keep us from growing spiritually.
This week, identify one specific comfort zone that has limited your obedience to Christ. Then, by God's grace, conquer it! Trust that the Savior who calls you to follow Him will also strengthen you every step of the way. The cost of discipleship is denying self and obediently following Jesus—but there is no greater life to live than one fully surrendered to Him.
