Monday - Bring the Book

Read: Nehemiah 8:1-3

Key Verse: "And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel." (Nehemiah 8:1)

The walls were finished. The gates were hung. The city was secure for the first time in over a hundred years. You might expect the people to throw a party or hold a parade. Instead, they gathered as one man. Nobody had to round them up. Nobody had to beg them to come. And they asked for one thing: the Book.

Not a concert. Not a show. The Scriptures.

And notice this: they stood from morning until midday, five to six hours, and "the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law" (Nehemiah 8:3). Nobody checked their watch. Nobody slipped out the back. They leaned in, because they knew God was speaking.
Here is the question that opens this week: How hungry are you for God's Word? A strong city can still house spiritually weak people, because the most dangerous ruins are not the ones you can see from the street. They are the ones hidden inside the human heart. And spiritual rebuilding always begins the same way: when the Bible is opened.

Reflect: What competes with the Bible for your attention in the morning?
