Friday - Signed Anyway

Nehemiah 10:38-39 – And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house. For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.

We have walked through relationships, priorities, and responsibilities. Three promises, each one costly. Now the chapter closes, and so do we.

Every last detail is accounted for. Who checks the tithe. Where it gets stored. Who answers for it if it comes up short. Then, after thirty-nine verses of fine print, the whole chapter lands on one line: we will not forsake the house of our God.

Not, we felt something about the house of God. We will not forsake it. That is a decision built to survive the day the feeling runs out.

They had already heard the whole cost read aloud in chapter 8. They had already confessed how badly they had failed at it before in chapter 9. And knowing all of that, in chapter 10, they signed anyway.

So will you. Not because the terms are easy. Because you have read them, and you know exactly who you are signing your name to.
