Thursday - Thanking God

Philippians 4:6 — "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."

Psalm 103:1–5 — "Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's."

One reason we worry so much is that we are short on gratitude. And when we're short on praise, we're short on peace.

Thanksgiving may be the greatest defense against anxiety because it changes what we're looking at. When I worry, I'm looking at what could go wrong. When I give thanks, I'm looking at what God has already done. It's hard to worry while you're saying, "Thank you, Lord."

David told his own soul, "Forget not all his benefits." Look back over your own life. How many times were you sure it wasn't going to work out, and God took care of it anyway? The God who came through then hasn't changed.

What has God already done in your life that you've forgotten to thank Him for?
