Friday - The Peace of God

Philippians 4:6-7 — “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

This peace is more than the absence of problems. It is shalom: wholeness, soundness, security, everything set right. It is the peace of God, the peace that belongs to God Himself. Because God is all-powerful, His peace is all-powerful. Because He is eternal, His peace has no end. Because He is holy, His peace is pure.

This peace "shall keep" your heart and mind. That is a military term for a soldier standing guard. As Paul wrote these words, Roman soldiers were guarding him. But something greater was guarding his heart: the peace of God, which kept fear from getting in.

That peace comes only "through Christ Jesus." It is the same peace that steadied Jesus before Pilate and on the cross, and He calls it "my peace." The world can't give it, and the world can't take it away.

Peace isn't found in the absence of problems. It's found in the presence of God.
No Jesus = No Peace. Know Jesus = Know Peace.

What would it look like today to let God's peace stand guard instead of standing guard yourself?
