Monday - Teach Us

Judges 13:8 — "Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born."

When Manoah heard that God was going to give him and his wife a son, his first response wasn't a celebration. It was a prayer: "Teach us." He knew what every parent learns quickly. It's hard to raise them right.

God had a great plan for that child, and He has one for yours. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). That's exciting news, but it's also sobering. If God has a purpose for your child, you have a responsibility.

I'll never forget the day my daughter Ara was born. In that moment I said, "Lord, she's Yours." That's what dedication is, and it's more about the parent than the child. Giving your child to the Lord doesn't remove your responsibility. It means you accept it, admit you need His help, and commit to following His plan.

God didn't leave Manoah guessing. He answered his prayer, and He will answer yours.

So start where Manoah started. Before you try to fix or figure out your parenting, bring it to the Lord and ask, "Teach me what I shall do unto the child." And you will find the answer in God’s Word.
