Thursday - Talk to Them

Deuteronomy 6:7 — "And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."

Notice where God says spiritual teaching happens: sitting at home, walking along the road, lying down at night, getting up in the morning. In other words, everywhere. There's never a bad time to talk about God.

You don't have to preach a sermon. Look for teachable moments and share your story. On a walk, look up and say, "Isn't God awesome? Look what He made!" Those small moments shape children more than we realize.

But words are only part of it. Kids don't want to hear a sermon as much as they want to see one. After washing His disciples' feet, Jesus said, "For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you" (John 13:15). The best way to get your kids close to God is for you to be close to God.

And bring back the family altar. In our home, Hannah does Bible time with the kids after breakfast, and we pray together every night. It doesn't have to be complicated: read a few verses, talk about them, ask what to pray about, and pray together.

Pick one of these today. A short conversation, an honest example, or a few verses around the table may matter more than you'll ever know.
