1 Samuel 30:6 – “And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”

Amid overwhelming distress, David faced the threat of abandonment and despair. His people turned against him, grief-stricken and desperate. Yet, in the face of adversity, David chose a different path. He turned to the Lord for solace and strength. When discouragement surrounded him, he found encouragement in God's presence.

During difficult times, it's natural to feel hopeless and give in to despair. Yet, there have been remarkable people throughout history who, despite facing immense challenges, found comfort and resilience in their faith. Among them is Helen Howarth Lemmel, who, despite being blind and abandoned by her husband, drew inspiration from Jesus and composed many hymns of praise and worship, including the beloved "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.”

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace."

Helen Howarth Lemmel found peace and strength by putting her faith in Jesus. When we focus on Him for encouragement, His light will guide us and help us overcome any discouragement that comes our way.
