January 2025 Newsletter
Welcome to a new ministry of Akron FBC! This newsletter's goal is to provide communication for everything involving the church so you never miss a thing! Be inspired each month by helpful resources, touching testimonies, exciting news, mission updates, and so much more!
Missions Spotlight: The Gospel Mission
The newly formed Missions Team talked about ways to best serve people through mission giving. We wanted to have a more local, community-minded approach to where the church would be sending financial support. There was an emphasis on smaller organizations that need help instead of multi-million dollar organizations.
The Missions Team decided to include the Gospel Mission, located in Sioux City, in the list of missions that the church supports. The Gospel Mission's focus is feeding, clothing, and sheltering the homeless, all while leading them to Christ. The Gospel Mission is a nonprofit, non-denominational Christian ministry dedicated to serving the homeless in Siouxland.
Opening their doors in 1938, they have been a beacon of hope for 86 years, providing countless souls with earthly provisions as well as the glorious gospel message.
Their kitchen serves three meals, 365 days a year, to the hungry and homeless. Their Food Pantry also provides groceries to those in need. Their Thrift Store gives away thousands of dollars of clothes and items every year through their voucher system and relationships with area agencies. The Mission has three shelters serving men, women, and children who need a safe, warm place to stay.
A relationship with Christ helps those who come through the shelter to get back on their feet and use their faith for strength. These amazing places stay open only because of volunteers and people who donate and walk beside them, helping with donations. We are a part of The Great Commission by helping support wonderful organizations like The Gospel Mission.
In 2025, the Missions Team aims to be more hands-on with some of the more local Missions the church financially supports. It's so important to not just give help financially, although that's very important, but to roll up our sleeves and show up to volunteer as well. The team will be organizing times when members of our church can get involved and volunteer to serve meals at The Gospel Mission!
Mark 12:28-31

What’s New?
For over a hundred years, Sunday school has provided education for children and adults alike. The First Baptist Church of Akron has a rich history of Sunday school whose impact reaches members today. Low attendance, lack of children, and pandemic restrictions are among a few of the likely reasons the church's Sunday school program closed its doors several years ago. There has been a growing interest in resuming Sunday school here at Akron FBC! The Lord's hand has been evident and members are currently at work to launch a Sunday school ministry for all ages in 2025! Stay tuned for more details!
As our church family has grown, ministries have expanded, and plans for improvement, it can feel challenging to keep up with it all. In 2025, Akron FBC will provide a monthly newsletter to help streamline communication for all things regarding the church. The prayer is that this resource will be encouraging, enlightening, and inspiring. Come along as this ministry progresses, and thank you for being such a vital part of God's work in this local church!

Upcoming Events:
Akron FBC is blessed to have such an array of ages represented in our church family. The Bible has much to say about honoring and serving each other, specifically our elders. Older believers have a special call to help guide younger believers in faith and family. On Saturday, January 25, Akron FBC will host a senior breakfast at 9:00 am in the fellowship hall. All senior citizens are invited to enjoy a wonderful morning of great food and fellowship.
Have you wanted to get involved in church serving but don’t know where to start? On Sunday, January 26, walk through vendor fair-style information booths on current and future volunteer opportunities to see where your gifts and interests fit best! The volunteer fair will take place following the Worship service and will be located in the fellowship hall.
Women carry many burdens and responsibilities in their homes, communities, and church. The faithfulness and service of Christian women is such a blessing. On Saturday, February 8, at 9:00 am, all women are invited to lay down their burdens for a morning, to worship our Savior together and enjoy food and fellowship. The heart of this women's event is to provide a morning of rest and renewal in Christ. If you have been feeling weary under the weight of burdens, loneliness, or stress, please allow a few hours of worship and fellowship to lift you up. Dress comfortably, come as you are, and be filled!
