Friday - Living Set Apart

Ephesians 5:1–5 – “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”

When Paul says, “Be ye followers of God,” he doesn’t stop with a call to love. He also gives a clear call to purity. In verses 3 through 5, he reminds us that the life of a believer should look different from the world around us.

He says, “Let it not be once named among you.” In other words, sin shouldn’t have a place in the life of someone who belongs to Jesus. Not because we’re trying to earn God’s favor, but because we already have it. We’re His children now. We bear His name.

The world tells us that sin is normal, that everyone does it, and that it’s no big deal. But Paul says the exact opposite. When we belong to God, our lives should reflect His holiness. Our hearts should be marked by gratitude, not greed. By purity, not impurity.

It’s not about pretending to be perfect. It’s about remembering who you belong to. You’ve been rescued, forgiven, and made new in Christ. That means you don’t have to live the old way anymore.

So ask yourself today, does my life reflect the family resemblance? Are there areas where I’ve started to look more like the world than like my Father?

If so, bring it to Him. Confess and forsake.

Because the world doesn’t need more people who say they’re Christians. It needs people who live like Christ.
